As Tulsans celebrate the holiday weekend, Tulsa area hospitals will continue to need blood donations. The Red Cross urges people to consider donating over the extended holiday weekend.
“We always talk about someone in this country needing blood every two seconds,†said Delisa English, CEO of American Red Cross Southwest Region. “That statistic holds true whether it’s Thanksgiving or just any other day of the week. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate this American holiday than by donating blood to save the life of your neighbor, and having the opportunity to thank those who sacrifice so much for our freedom.â€
Blood donors must be:
17 years of age
weigh 100 lbs
be in general good health
Area hospitals mainly rely on blood collected at the Tulsa Centers, located at 11th and Highway 169 and 7158 South Memorial. Both Tulsa centers will be open throughout the holiday weekend to accompany as many donors as possible.
Hours for the holiday weekend are:
Thanksgiving Day - 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Friday and Saturday - 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Sunday - 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
For more information or to make an appointment, donors are encouraged to call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543).
The Red Cross is also offering donors the opportunity to thank overseas military personnel through thank-you cards that will accompany Blue Star Mothers’ care packages.
