McALESTER, Okla. (AP) -- A McAlester man accused of killing his wife is asking the court to allow him to be released on bond. An attorney for Erick Stachmus also wants a Pittsburg County judge to delay the murder trial that is set to begin next month. District Judge Thomas Bartheld has set both requests for a hearing Wednesday at the Pittsburg County Courthouse.

Stachmus is charged with first-degree murder in the November 2006 death of his wife, Regina Stachmus. Erick Stachmus called police and reported she drowned in a hot tub on the back deck of the couple's town house.

Stachmus had been free on bond until last July, when he stipulated to the bond being revoked after he was accused of violating the conditions of the bond.

District Attorney Jim Bob Miller's office already has objected to the defense request to reinstate the bond.
