Atlanta's Todd White loves to center a line with Ilya Kovalchuk and Marian Hossa. Especially when games goes to overtime.

White scored a power-play goal set up by Kovalchuk 2:49 into overtime to give the Thrashers a 4-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday night.

``I don't know what it is about overtime,'' White said. ``But I told them I was good for one (winner) a year. This makes two. I don't know.''

Kovalchuk had his NHL-best 17th goal for Atlanta, which withstood another terrific effort by Vincent Lecavalier to earn its third straight win.

Lecavalier had a goal and an assist for the Lightning to extend his multipoint streak to eight games, longest in the NHL since Jaromir Jagr had 10 straight for Pittsburgh from Feb. 18-March 9, 1996. The Tampa Bay star leads the league with 34 points.

In other NHL games it was: the New York Islanders 2, the New York Rangers 1; St. Louis 2, Nashville 1; Ottawa 4, Montreal 2; Florida 4, Washington 3; and Dallas 3, Los Angeles 0.

Kovalchuk tied it at 3 with a wrister with 2:23 left in regulation, and helped set up White's winner in overtime.

``Todd looks like a 60-goal scorer out there,'' Kovalchuk said. ``His first overtime goal was top shelf and this one (went) low.''

The Lightning led 3-1 on Martin St. Louis' goal with 9:30 left in the third, but Bryan Little scored 4 minutes later with Atlanta on a two-man advantage to make it 3-2.

Tampa Bay coach John Tortorella wasn't exactly pleased with the holding call on Brad Richards, which gave Atlanta an easier chance to start a comeback.

``The frustrating part to me is that these organizations pay players millions upon millions of dollars, and they are the ones who should decide the outcome of games,'' he said. ``They are the show. I'm trying to stay away from criticizing calls, but (to heck with that). I don't get it.''

The Thrashers improved to 5-0 in overtime this season. Since general manager Don Waddell took over as coach on Oct. 18, Atlanta is 10-4-0.

``We did a great job in the third period,'' Waddell said. ``We only gave them four shots. We shut them down until they got the third goal, but this team never feels they are out of it.''

Islanders 2, Rangers 1

Rick DiPietro earned his 100th NHL victory with 18 saves to help the Islanders beat the Rangers for the third time this season.

The Islanders are 8-1-2 in their last 11 against the Rangers, and now have 500 road wins in franchise history. DiPietro earned his 12th victory over New York and snapped the Rangers' winning streak at five.

Ruslan Fedotenko and Josef Vasicek staked the Islanders to a 2-0 lead in the second period.

Michal Rozsival scored for the Rangers, who got 22 saves from Henrik Lundqvist but fell to 8-3 at home.

Blues 2, Predators 1

Paul Kariya had a goal and an assist against his former team and Brad Boyes scored his team-leading 12th goal for the Blues, who have won four straight.

Kariya, who played the last two seasons with the Predators, broke a scoreless tie in the second. He tipped Erik Johnson's shot from the point between the pads of Nashville goalie Chris Mason at 9:32 for a power-play goal.

Boyes, who also scored Saturday against the Predators, gave the Blues a 2-0 lead when he banged home Kariya's tip pass 6:40 into the third period.

Radek Bonk scored for visiting Nashville late in the third.

Senators 4, Canadiens 2

At Montreal, Dany Heatley had a goal and two assists and Jason Spezza added three assists for the Senators.

Patrick Eaves, Chris Neil and Chris Kelly also scored for Ottawa, which had lost two of four _ including 3-0 in Toronto on Saturday _ after getting off to a 13-1-0 start.

Martin Gerber stopped 36 shots for his league-leading 13th win in 15 starts.

Hall of Fame defenseman Larry Robinson became the 13th Montreal player to have his number retired by the team when his No. 19 was hoisted to the rafters in a pregame ceremony.

Panthers 4, Capitals 3

Olli Jokinen had two goals and Florida ended a four-game road losing streak.

David Booth and Kamil Kreps also scored for the Panthers, who beat Washington for the second time in less than a week. Tomas Vokoun finished with 27 saves.

Alexander Semin, Chris Clark and Brooks Laich scored for the struggling Capitals, who have lost four straight and fell to 2-6 at home.

Stars 3, Kings 0

Steve Ott scored a rare goal for the Stars, and Mike Smith stopped 22 shots for his fourth career shutout.

Ott, known more as a checker and instigator than for his goal-scoring, notched his 12th in 214 career games late in the second period to put Dallas in front, and the Stars went on to beat the Kings in Dallas for the 10th straight time.

Niklas Hagman added his team-high ninth goal on a breakaway at 13:10 of the third period, and Jere Lehtinen scored his sixth on a power play 2:14 later to make it 3-0.

Jason LaBarbera had 23 saves for the visiting Kings.
