SEATTLE (AP) -- Police in Brazil have told the FBI they believe they have found the body of a former Washington State University basketball star who went missing earlier this month while playing in the South American nation.

The body was believed to be Tony Harris based on physical description and the clothing, Agent Robbie Burroughs, a spokeswoman for the FBI, said Sunday night. No confirmation had been made.

An FBI agent attached to the U.S. Embassy in Brazil has been in contact with Brazilian police and would work with them Monday to confirm the body's identity, Burroughs said.

Harris, who would have turned 37 on Sunday, left Oct. 31 to play basketball for a Brazilian team, Universo. His wife last heard fromhim on November 4.

Harris played for the 1994 WSU team that made it to the east regionals of the NCAA tournament, and before that on state championship teams at Garfield High School in Seattle. After college, Harris played in Asia and South America, including a previous stint in Brazil.

Harris returned to Seattle and most recently worked as a counselor at Echo Glen, a juvenile rehabilitation facility. But that job ended when he was not hired permanently in February, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported.
