OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A new poll shows Democrat Brad Carson holds a slim lead over Republican Tom Coburn in the hotly contested race for the US Senate.

The poll, commissioned by The Oklahoman and NEWS 9 and conducted by Wilson Research Strategies, shows Carson ahead of Coburn by 5 percentage points. The poll's margin of error is 4.5%, making Carson's lead greater than the margin for error.

Just last month, Coburn had a 9-point lead over Carson in a poll conducted by the Virginia-based company. Carson and Coburn are seeking to succeed retiring Republican US Senator Don Nickles.

The poll, released Monday, also found voter support for state questions establishing a lottery and legalizing casino-style gambling at racetracks and tribal casinos.
