OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ It took the Oklahoma State Senate just eight minutes Monday to dissolve itself as a court of impeachment for the trial of Insurance Commissioner Carroll Fisher.
The Senate also adjourned a special session that had been called for the investigation and impeachment of Fisher.
Supreme Court Chief Justice Joseph Watt ordered the trial adjourned following Fisher's resignation last Friday.
Representative Frank Davis, the chairman of the House Board of Managers, paid tribute to several of his colleagues. Davis singled out John Trebilcock and Fred Morgan, who introduced the resolution calling for the impeachment, and Opio (OH'-pee-oh) Toure (tour-A'), who headed up the House investigation.
Davis says it was not a job that anyone in the state House wanted, but that the outcome of the group's work shows democracy is alive and well in Oklahoma.
