Oklahoma volunteers serve meals to Floridians in need

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ Three Red Cross volunteers from central Oklahoma helped deliver meals and snacks to thousands of Floridians following Hurricane Charley.

Linda Srnsky of Purcell and Dee Johnson of Oklahoma City took an Emergency Response Vehicle to Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda and used it to take food to residents, hospital employees and law enforcement officers.

Srnsky was in charge of setting up 28 routes for the trucks that delivered the meals.

The two Oklahomans were part of a volunteer crew based at a church in North Port, Florida, that served 320-thousand meals and snacks.

Carolyn Bowman of Spencer served meals at an assisted-living center and to low-income housing residents in Port Charlotte.

Bowman and Srnsky hope to return to help those in need following Hurricane Ivan.
