DAVIS, Okla. (AP) _ An Oklahoma Corporation Commission official believes an oil field-related salt leak is responsible for the deaths of more than 150 bass, blue gill and perch.
Salt has been seeping into the two-acre pond on Rick LaNoy's family farm for several weeks.
Tim Baker with the Corporation Commission says investigators think the salt infiltration could be the result of oil-field activity almost a century ago.
He says the contaminated water seeping into the pond doesn't match the salt water byproduct from 33 nearby active oil wells.
The Corporation Commission will plug a recently dug water well on LaNoy's property in case the new well opened up a pathway for the salt contamination.
