A Cherokee County community is mourning the death of a 9-year-old boy who choked to death during his school lunch hour.

It happened in the town of Peggs. The Sheriff's Office says it got a 911 call from the Peggs K-8 school at about 11:40 Thursday morning. School workers and emergency crews tried to administer the Heimlich maneuver.

The boy was flown to Tulsaâ€™s Saint Francis hospital where he died. His name is not being released yet.

Classes at Peggs schools are canceled Friday.
