OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Two Oklahoma City-based energy company are shutting down their oil and gas production in the Gulf of Mexico because of Hurricane Ivan.

Kerr-McGee is removing about 100 contract employees and shutting down 17 facilities that generate up to 45,000 barrels of oil per day.

Devon Energy is removing about 120 workers from ten sites that produce about 20,000 barrels of oil a day.

Officials with both companies say the safety of the workers is their top priority and that production will resume in a few days, after the storm passes.
