MESQUITE, Texas (AP) -- The mother of a missing Dallas-area girl says she's received a letter from her 12-year-old daughter.

The girl's father is Sanford Hicks of Elk City, Oklahoma.

Angela Hudachek says the letter from Jami Hicks of Mesquite has a postmark from Pennsylvania. Hudachek says her daughter writes that she's "touring the world" with her stepfather, James Roy Hudachek. The next stop was thought to be Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Police have been looking for the girl since September fourth when her mother reported her missing.

James Hudachek professed his romantic love for Jami in a letter her relatives found after the pair disappeared. Investigators say Hudachek also bought a pistol and wrote in a letter that he'd rather die than not be with the girl.

Meanwhile, authorities canceled an Amber Alert issued in South Carolina for the girl.
