OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The state House of Representatives voted Thursday morning to impeach state Insurance Commissioner Carroll Fisher.
The House met in special session and approved five articles of impeachment accusing Fisher of neglect of duty, corruption and incompetence.
The vote comes a week after a special House committee that investigated Fisher recommended he be impeached.
The matter now goes to the state Senate where Fisher will be tried and, if convicted, removed from office.
It will take a two-thirds vote of the 48 member Senate to convict Fisher.
This is the first impeachment vote in the House in nearly 30 years. Representatives voted in 1975 to impeach Secretary of State John Rogers, who resigned before his Senate trial.
Fisher has said he will not resign.
