McALESTER, Okla. (AP) _ Wayland Smalley believes in minimizing government, protecting Social Security, finding cheaper prescription drugs and finishing the job in Iraq.
He believes in loosening restrictions on guns and stopping politicians from using Social Security money for unrelated purposes.
He also believes he has a chance to beat Democrat Dan Boren in Oklahoma's Second Congressional District in November.
Smalley is the Republican candidate. Brad Carson currently has the job, but Carson is running for the U-S Senate.
Smalley is an underdog to beat Boren, a state representative from Paden. Only 19 percent of registered voters in the Second District are Republicans.
But Smalley says his campaign is going strong and volunteers are coming in.
