The gun laws in Oklahoma are about to change. Starting November 1st, employers cannot prevent workers with gun permits from keeping a gun in their cars at work.

The goal of the law is to protect the rights of gun owners. The law specifically says employers cannot create policies or rules to ban permitted guns in locked cars, unless the employee is a convicted felon.

Some who work at schools or federal buildings still won't be allowed to bring guns in their cars.

Miles Hall with H & H Gun Range: “if somebody's going to do harm to me and mine, I would like to have the ability to defend myself, it seems more logical to have it than not.”

Licensed counselor Rebecca Mild: “it's going to create more of a problem to have weapons that available to people.”

Gun experts say no previous workplace shootings have ever been carried out by someone with a conceal and carry permit.

There are about 42,000 people with permits to carry a gun in Oklahoma.
