WASHINGTON (AP) _ Oklahoma ranks 25th among the 50 states and District of Columbia in the number of alcohol-related traffic deaths in 2003.
A report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says 255 people died in drunken driving crashes in the state last year. The number is up slightly from the 251 alcohol-related traffic fatalities in 2002.
Nationwide, the number of alcohol-related traffic deaths fell by three percent last year, from 17,524 in 2002 to 1,713.
Texas had the highest number of traffic deaths related to alcohol use with more than 1,700.
