ENID, Okla. (AP) -- Union officials at Vance Air Force Base in Enid say another round of civilian employee layoffs could come in early October.

Local union President Jerry McCune says he learned the Air Force is reducing the number of pilots and flying time at the base.

McCune says they will try to prepare for the layoffs by reducing employment through voluntary retirement and not filling vacant positions.

Nearly 30 employees were laid off last year when the Air Force cut back on the number of pilots it planned to train.

A spokesman for DynCorp, the contractor for civilian employees at the base, says he expects similar cuts this year.
