CYRIL, Okla. (AP) _ It's the beginning of the end for an abandoned tank farm in Cyril.
Crews from the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality and the Environmental Protection Agency have begun dismantling the old Oklahoma Refining Company tank farm.
The deteriorating storage tanks are being cut open to remove and dispose of the hazardous wastes left inside.
The cleanup project phase started August ninth and should take about two months.
The D-E-Q and E-P-A are planning for a long-term cleanup of the soil, ground water, and surface water at the site.
Operations at the Cyril refinery ceased in 1983.
The refinery superstructure was removed earlier this year after it became a danger to human health and the environment.
