WASHINGTON (AP) _ Oklahoma City-based Neighbors Coffee expanded an earlier coffee recall Monday to include 300 to 500 pounds of bulk tea that contain undeclared almonds.
On Friday, the company pulled from shelves nearly 20,000 pounds of whole-bean, nut-flavored coffee for label errors that failed to note almonds, hazelnuts, peanuts and pecans in the coffee. People with allergies can suffer serious, even life-threatening, reactions to the nuts.
The affected tea was sold nationwide in two-pound packages as caffeinated and decaffeinated Amaretto Tea and Cherry Almond Tea. The tea was sold at retail stores as well as by mail, Web and telephone orders. The tea, produced from Feb. 12 through Aug. 12, bears lot numbers 0434 through 2254 on the front of the package.
No illness or death has been reported, according to the company. Consumers can exchange the recalled tea at the place of purchase or receive a refund. Customers with questions may call the company at 800-299-9016.
