NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- Oklahoma radars regularly track tornadoes, but a radar system based in Norman turned its attention to Hurricane Charley this weekend.

The computer system, called the Integrated Radar Data Services, is based at the Center for Analysis and Prediction of Storms at the University of Oklahoma.

It collected data from Doppler radars across the nation and sent the information to the National Hurricane Center.

The executive director at the Norman center, Kelvin Droegemeier, says the data was the most complete three-dimensional information about the hurricane available.

Hurricane Charley killed at least 16 people and caused estimated damage as high as $11-billion to insured homes in Florida.
