LAWTON (AP) -- Officials with the US Fish and Wildlife Service are working with volunteers to move a prairie dog town from a dairy farm near Lawton to the Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge.

Volunteers and wildlife officials have captured 72 prairie dogs.

The prairie dogs were transplanted to a new town at the wildlife refuge near Mount Pinchot.

Officials chose the site because the soil type is similar to the type used by other prairie dogs on and off the refuge.
