Despite the rain earlier today, hundreds of folks gathered at Jones Riverside Airport to "pull for kids". Today was CampFire USA's fifth annual "Just Plane Fun" event.. a program which benefits Tulsa's disadvantaged children.
More than 5-thousand children in northeast Oklahoma are involved in Camp Fire USA... 35-hundred in Tulsa alone. The event is held at Tulsa Technology Center's Riverside Campus every year. One of the main attractions is the airplane pull. Teams of 20 competed in a tug-of-war contest to see who can pull a Boeing 7-27 twelve feet the fastest. One team consisted of the "who's who" of mascots including Pistol Pete and Hornsby. American Airlines, Honeywell, and Williams were just some of the teams that paid a thousand dollars to participate in an event which benefits Tulsa's kids. "It's Camp Fire's special even fundraiser to raise money, so kids who's families cannot afford uniforms, emblems, and program books that we have an angle fund that we can help those families."
The free event gave kids a chance to learn about aviation and participate in a lot other fun activities.
