(AP) -- Almost the same number of people have been killed in Oklahoma traffic accidents this month as were killed by this time in June 2003.

The state Department of Public Safety reports that 44 people have died in traffic accidents so far this month. At this time last June, 42 people had died in crashes.

The picture is different when comparing the number of people killed so far this year in collisions to the number killed last year at this time.

This year, 358 people have died. At this time last year, only 285 had died. That's a 25 percent increase.
