Catoosa Police are investigating the death of a 6-month-old boy who was apparently left in a car for eight hours.

News on 6 reporter Steve Berg says Catoosa Police say that Danny Spitzer was supposed to drop off his son at daycare Thursday morning. Instead he came to work at the liquor store he runs on Highway 66 in Catoosa.

Police say he didn't realize his mistake until the end of the day. They say his wife had gone to pick up the boy at daycare, and when she realized he wasn't there, she called the store.

Spitzer told police he dropped the phone and ran out to the truck, but the baby had been inside for 8 hours, in temperatures that reached the 90's. Spitzer is not in custody.

Police say it will be up to the Rogers County DA on whether to charge him with anything.
