(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Because of errors on standardized student tests this spring, the state Board of Education has decided to fine companies if errors are found on next year's tests.

The board approved a contract with CTB/McGraw Hill for end-of-instruction tests that include fines of $28,000 a day for any error. Harcourt Educational Measurement will provide tests for third- through eighth-graders and could be fined about $56,000 a day for errors.

Standardized test scores can be used to determine if schools are penalized under the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
