SAN ANTONIO (AP) _ SBC Communications Inc. and Yahoo! Inc. increased the size of e-mail accounts to 2 gigabytes for SBC-Yahoo dial-up and digital subscriber line Internet customers, 80 times larger than the 25 megabytes previously offered to subscribers.
SBC-Yahoo also eliminated graphical advertisements from its Web-based e-mail accounts, and said dial-up and DSL clients will receive an enhanced version of Yahoo! messenger that includes customizable features and applications such as streaming radio.
The move comes as Yahoo earlier today increased the size of free e-mail accounts to 100 megabytes from 6 megabytes and introduced a re-designed interface in response to the highly anticipated free e-mail service from Google Inc., which will offer users 1 gigabyte of e-mail storage space.
