GAINESVILLE, Texas (AP) _ Three men were injured Saturday night when their car crashed into the side of an Amtrak train, police said.

The three unidentified men were hurt when they tried to drive around the railroad crossing gates and struck the side of the Heartland Flyer train, Gainesville Police Sgt. Larry Simmons said.

One of the men was treated and released, and a second remained hospitalized in Gainesville. A third man was transported by medical helicopter to a hospital in Dallas, where his condition was not immediately known.

The train was en route to Oklahoma City when the crash occurred, damaging the engine's air system. The train remained stopped late Saturday night awaiting another engine, Simmons said.

The Heartland Flyer runs daily between Fort Worth, Texas, and Oklahoma City.

Gainesville is about 60 miles north of the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
