Wearing a seatbelt is Oklahoma State law and authorities have a no tolerance policy. But some people are not getting the message.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers say the Click It Or Ticket program saves lives. Oklahoma has already surpassed last year's total number of highway fatalities. Troopers say in many accidents, the vehicle rolls and victims are ejected. And not being strapped in becomes a fatal mistake.

Trooper Pat Mays: "We've been to many, many collisions where there's no doubt in our mind if they had a seatbelt on they'd be here with us today instead of dead."

Fines for no seat beat around Green Country range from $20 to $30 and can be even higher for unsecured children.

Statistics show pickup trucks are twice more likely to roll over in fatal crashes than cars. Troopers say safety belts reduce the risk of dying in a rollover crash by 70% or more.
