83-years ago today, Tulsa was in the midst of a race riot. The fighting started after whites and blacks clashed outside a courthouse where a black man was held on allegations of assaulting a white woman the day before.
The confirmed death toll was 37, but some estimates are in the hundreds.
Survivors sued the city and state for reparations, but a federal judge recently dismissed their lawsuit. He says the statute of limitations had run out.
