A mission to help a war ravaged country. Five college students with Tulsa's Fluid Mission head to Afghanistan next month to help with reconstruction efforts.
News on 6 reporter Patrina Adger talks to the group about its upcoming mission. Drew Tuzinkiewicz and Kevin Schneider are members of Fluid Mission. A faith based group of college and graduate students who travel to foreign countries hoping to make a difference. "We'll be going to Afghanistan. No beaches there. Ha Ha. Lots of sand no water!"
Starting next month, four members of the Fluid Mission will be spending their summer in Afghanistan to help in the rebuilding efforts. It will be Kevin's second trip. "We're gonna be volunteering our time in traditional Islamic government of Afghanistan- bringing hope."
In the year Fluid Mission has been in existence, they've traveled to countries like Iran, Iraq, Kenya and Indonesia. Drew says they know the dangers that face them going into countries torn by war, but it's a mission from God. A life changing experience not only for these people but for him as well. "I don't think any picture, infomercial, anything is gonna prepare you for the life changing- when you step on the ground on some of these nations."
"It really is a critical point in Afghanistan-has the ability to go back to a terrorist breeding ground-by us helping them, we're helping America."
The group will leave at the beginning of next month and will be there for three months.
