(Muskogee-AP) -- Muskogee investigators aren't giving up their search for the possible remains of a child under an old hotel's basement.
Law officers dug underneath an elevator cavity in the Muskogee Hotel on Friday, but found nothing.
Investigators were tipped earlier in the day after receiving an unsigned letter written in pencil from an out-of-town location. The letter was sent to the Muskogee County District Court Clerk's office.
County Sheriff Charles Pearson didn't release the contents of the note, but said it stated that a ten-year-old boy was buried in an elevator shaft in the hotel.
Pearson believes recent articles in the Muskogee Phoenix newspaper about efforts to revitalize the building may have prompted the writer to send the letter.
The hotel was built in the early 1920s but was condemned in 1996 when it didn't pass safety inspections. Part of if now houses a retail store with tools and children's toys.
