(Oklahoma City-AP) -- University of Oklahoma regents have approved admission standards intended to weed out freshman applicants unlikely to finish college.
The regulations require in-state students to score a 24 on the ACT, have a 3.01 grade point average and finish in the top half of their high school class.
Under current standards, all in-state applicants who score 24 on the ACT are automatically admitted without consideration of GPA or high-school rank.
The new admission policy will take effect in summer 2005.
The change is based on statistics that show a higher graduation rate for students who finish high-school in the top half of their class.
The school is trying to raise its graduation rate so it can move into the top tier of rankings by US News and World Report.
