RED ROCK, Okla. (AP) -- A juvenile has been arrested and other suspects are being sought in a fire that did major damage to Red Rock town hall, officials said.
The interior of the town hall was destroyed in the fire early Wednesday, but the building's metal walls withstood the blaze, said Ron Horton, an inspector with the state fire marshal's office.
Fire trucks were removed from the building so that they wouldn't be damaged.
"It had the potential to wipe out their entire fire department," Horton said.
Fire Chief Jerry Potter said firefighters were able to put out the blaze within a few minutes of receiving a report of the fire at 1:53 a.m.
He said he retrieved most of the fire department's records but he thinks all town records were destroyed.
He said the building appears to remain structurally sound, but probably will have to be gutted and rebuilt inside.
Red Rock is a town of about 300, 20 miles south of Ponca City.
