The OSU Cowboys are in the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2000, when they made it to the Elite 8 but lost to the University of Florida.

The following year, the Cowboys experienced the worse loss of their lives. Ten people associated with the school's basketball program were killed January 27th of 2001. Their plane crashed in a field in Colorado following a basketball game there.

Carly Cheathum was a freshman at the time of the tragedy. She says the loss was a devastating blow to the entire student body. "To have a team go through something that devastating can just tear 'em apart and they've really been strong. It shows resilience in the organization."
