ENID, Okla. (AP) _ A longtime local broadcaster has lost his fight with cancer.

Bert Chambers, president and general manager of Quinstar Communications Network, died of cancer at his home Monday morning. He was 54.

Chambers' wife, Kathy, said her husband had been fighting the disease for more than a year. The type of cancer wasn't disclosed.

Quinstar, which owns Enid-based KGWA-TV and KOFM, is an agriculture communications network and is associated with Griffin Communications, which owns KWTV in Oklahoma City and KOTV in Tulsa, officials said.

The network provides news and weather reports and sends those reports to radio stations across the state via satellite.

Kyle Williams, owner and general manager of KGWA, said Chambers loved broadcasting and made contributions to the business.

``He's a kind person and incredibly knowledgeable about the radio business,'' said Williams, who is also vice president of Quinstar. ``Bert is one of the true gentlemen in life.''

Chambers graduated from Enid High School in 1967 and attended Oklahoma State University for a year before transferring to Phillips University, where he graduated in 1971. He went to work for KGWA in 1968.

Besides his wife, Kathy, Chambers is survived by sons Kyle and Brad.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
