McALESTER, Okla. (AP) _ A 21-year-old state prison inmate has died at an Oklahoma City hospital, prison spokesman Lee Mann said Thursday.

An investigation into James R. Wise's death is under way and details on what may have led to his death are not being released at this time, Mann said.

He died Monday at Presbyterian Hospital. He was brought there Feb. 24.

Wise was serving four years for two assault and battery convictions in 2000 in Pottawatomie County.

While in prison he was convicted of possession of contraband in a penal institution and sentenced to an additional three years.
