McALESTER, Okla. (AP) -- An Oklahoma State Penitentiary inmate serving two life sentences has been sentenced to 80 years for stabbing to two prison guards.
Castulo J. Rivas was sentenced Wednesday for two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and additional counts of possession of contraband by an inmate. The charges are felonies.
Rivas is already serving two life sentences from Washington state after being convicted in 1997 of first-degree arson and second-degree assault.
When he was sentenced for those crimes, he had previous convictions for attempted second-degree assault and second and third-degree assault.
In a plea agreement, Rivas admitted to stabbing two correctional officers with a homemade knife. The officers' injuries were not life threatening and the officers returned to work shortly after the incident.
