(Oklahoma City-AP) -- The state would pay up to $5-million to relocate some families out of the Tar Creek Superfund site under legislation headed to the Oklahoma House.
Governor Brad Henry has proposed the state buy the homes of families with children six years old or younger. Children under age six are considered more susceptible to health problems from lead exposure.
Stillwater Republican Mike Morgan's bill passed the state Senate on a 36-to-6 vote Monday.
Grove Democrat Rick Littlefield says he has strong reservations about the bill, but wants to keep the bill alive so senators can make a plan to help the people he represents.
US Senator James Inhofe has proposed a private buyout in the area.
