WASHINGTON (AP) _ Nearly 162,000 gas grills are being recalled because the glass covers on the temperature gauges can shatter, posing a risk to users, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday.
The grills were manufactured by Grand Hall Enterprise Co. Ltd., of Taiwan, and sold under the brand names Bakers & Chefs, Members Mark and Kenmore. They were sold at Sam's Club and Sears stores nationwide between April 2001 and December 2002. The Members Mark grills sold for $1,500 and the other grills sold for between $249 and $299.
The recalled grills are stainless steel or painted steel with the brand name on the front control panel or on the grill lid.The safety commission said the glass cover may break if moisture gets inside the temperature gauge. There have been eight reports of gauges breaking, causing minor injuries in two cases.
The recall includes Bakers & Chefs model numbers Y0655 and Y0656, Members Mark model number Y0660 and Kenmore model numbers 15221 and 15223. The model number can be located on a silver ID tag on the back or side of the grill head.
