Tulsa is getting more sophisticated stoplights. They're changing them to more efficient electronic lights.
Plans call for changing out the lights in at least 240 of Tulsa's intersections. The job will take until at least April. The old style Edison type light bulbs are being replaced with LEDs that use less power, and last much longer.
Dean Knoten, City of Tulsa Inspector: "The old lights they kind of gradually come on, whereas these just pop on, and they burn a lot brighter, they seem brighter."
The idea came from a performance review of government. The job will cost a million dollars upfront, but save about $185,000 annually in power and maintenance costs.
