(Oklahoma City-AP) -- State Representative Mary Easley plans to run for the state Senate seat that her son is leaving.

Her son, Senator Kevin Easley of Broken Arrow, announced last month he would resign February 29th to become general manager of the Grand River Dam Authority.

Mary Easley has represented Tulsa in the House since 1996. She chairs the House Banking and Finance Committee and serves on the Appropriations and Budget and Education committees.

She says she wants to be an advocate for education and for seniors. She's a retired public school teacher.

A special election is scheduled April 6th to fill Kevin Easley's seat. The primary will be on March 9th.
