Tulsa Public Schools hope to avoid a nearly $11-million penalty for increasing class sizes.
The district has submitted a petition for a penalty waiver from the Board of Education. Class sizes in all Tulsa schools are beyond state limits for a second year in a row.
The district says it helps cut costs for teacher salaries. The penalty would wipe out the district financially. The waiver is expected to be approved next month.
