US blood banks say they are in desperate need for donations, so some Tulsa folks rolled up their sleeves to help out the Red Cross Tuesday.

Tulsa's Street School is hosting the first day of a blood drive called "Taking It To The Streets." Red Cross workers say giving blood takes just an hour of your time, but your donation could save three lives. They say the need is especially high after the holidays.

Cindy Merideth with Red Cross: "Winter is one of our hardest collection times. So for Sodexho, Tulsa Public Schools and Street School to step up to the plate and say we want to do something to help our community. We want to sponsor a blood drive, its extremely important to the patients in the Tulsa area.”
