(Oklahoma City-AP) -- A Weatherford woman is being treated in Oklahoma City for flesh-eating bacteria.
The 83-year-old woman was transferred to Integris Baptist Medical Center last week. She was malnourished and was in shock and kidney failure.
Infectious disease specialist V. Ramgopal says it would be a true accomplishment if the lady survives.
Surgeons had to remove her right arm to halt the spread of the bacteria.
Ramgopal says the flesh-eating bacteria might have gotten into the woman's body through a bruise after a fall.
Four Oklahomans have died from the disease this year. There have been ten deaths statewide since the bacteria became reportable in July 2000 in Oklahoma.
The 2003 victims have been from Moore, Midwest City, Miami and Canadian County.
