The flu outbreak has shut down an entire school district for the day. So many kids in Jay are down with the flu; all 1,700 students are taking a sick day. The flu hit Jay Public Schools hard.
Almost a fourth of their students and teachers are sick. With the numbers continuing to rise, the school district decided to take action and cancel classes.
Jay Elementary School principal Sandy Coaly: "They're a little shocked but alot of them have children and siblings sick in the other buildings too so they're not real surprised and its just been building up this week."
Parent Stephanie Mount: “I wish they would close school til Monday and cancel the sporting events everything just to keep them all away from each other."
The halls will be empty Wednesday, so janitors will try to scrub the flu bug from the building.
