The Oklahoma Energy Resources Board is celebrating a milestone. They have cleaned up and restored 5,000 abandoned oil well sites in the past ten years.

Mike Terry, OERB Executive Director, "we are now restoring abandoned sites at the rate of about a thousand per year. So we think that is something to celebrate in our state."

The OERB has spent $20-million in 59 Oklahoma counties to clean up well sites abandoned before regulations were in place.
