A new state law that adds county sales taxes to residential energy bills is good news for the Tulsa County jail.

That law is expected to raise $4.5-million a year for the jail, and local capital improvement projects. Electricity and natural gas bills were untaxed until a new law went into effect November 1st.

A recent auditor's report shows the Tulsa County jail can't pay its operating costs. The jail blames a shortfall on the number of state prisoners subsidized at the jail.
