(Tulsa-AP) -- A Tulsa police officer who was shot and wounded while protecting a wounded bystander during a shootout has been chosen one of the nation's ``top cops.''
Officer Darren Bristow and ten other officers will be honored Friday in Philadelphia by the International Chiefs of Police and Parade magazine.
Bristow was hit with more than 100 shotgun pellets last October as he shielded the bystander during the shootout with Benito Hernandez. Up to 50 of the pellets remain in his legs.
The shootout came after Hernandez broke into the home of his ex-wife and ended when Hernandez was shot to death by police.
