McALESTER, Okla. (AP) _ The cost of cleaning up black mold found in a child care center at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant has reached at least $250,000.

The center, operated by seven staff members for 28 children of plant employees, was evacuated and closed Aug. 13 after mold was found behind a kitchen wall.

The center was re-opened at a temporary location five days later, and is now being operated out of two modular homes on the base.

Mark Hughes, spokesman for the plant, said the mold found in the kitchen was attributed to a leak from a water heater. However, further examination revealed mold throughout the center.
