Delaware County man confesses to killing girl in Oklahoma 45 years ago

(Jay-AP) -- Authorities say a Delaware County man has confessed to killing a 9-year-old in Oklahoma 45 years ago.

Jimmy Shellman made the claim Friday, but Delaware County authorities say they have no file about a girl missing since 1958. Sheriff Lenden Woodruff says nearly all the department's records were missing when he took office in 2001.

Shellman is now in a Veterans Administration mental hospital where a Delaware County deputy sheriff is to interview him.

Shellman was 11 in 1958.
