(Oklahoma City-AP) -- The widow of state Senator Keith Leftwich said Monday she's running for her late husband's seat.

Debbe Leftwich of Oklahoma City says her late husband always encouraged her to get involved in the political arena.

She says she agreed to run after a grassroots ``Draft Debbe'' movement gathered more than two-thousand signatures supporting her candidacy.

Filing for the special election to fill the vacant seat opened Monday and runs through Wednesday.

A special primary election is scheduled for November 18th and the general election is set for December 9th.

The winner will serve out the remaining three years of Keith Leftwich's four-year term in Senate District 44.

Leftwich died on September 19th following a long battle with cancer.
